Nel 2022 sono stati 287 i pedoni over65 morti sulle strade delle città italiane, circa il 60% di quelli totali, e più di 6.000 i pedoni over65 coinvolti in incidenti stradali che hanno riportato ferite di varia gravità (il 32% del totale). Fra le principali cause degli incidenti e sicuramente della gravità degli stessi nel caso di pedoni è riconducibile alla velocità. Un trend nazionale, quello dei pedoni investiti, che, pur registrando un lieve calo negli ultimi anni (al netto del periodo del Covid), continua a restituire dati allarmanti che collocano la sicurezza stradale fra le principali emergenze nazionali.
Inoltre, dai dati della sorveglianza PASSI d’Argento (PdA) coordinata dall’Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS) e raccolti nel biennio 2021-2022, risulta che il 15% degli anziani (ovvero più di 2 milioni della popolazione con 65 anni o più) vive in condizioni di rischio di isolamento sociale e dichiara che in una “settimana normale” non incontra né telefona a nessuno e non partecipa ad attività con altre persone presso punti di incontro o aggregazione.
